“I feel so incredibly comfortable around him. There is a very particular Aussie mentality and he has got it. He epitomises it. He’s really smart and he’s very impassioned, but he’s also really funny and light and kinda loud.”
I never did acting at school. I was quite shy throughout my life. My dad and I were at a restaurant and noticed this group of pretty girls nearby and for some reason decided to ask where they had just been. They mentioned the local acting school and since then he had nagged me about attending. At one point he said he would pay me which is pretty strange - I don’t know what his intentions were, but I went. My dad said to me the other day: “I really am an artistic person”. I was shocked as I never saw him as a creative. I think me and my sisters are living out that side of him as my sister is another creative person, she’s a songwriter.
“I think people are used to seeing actors be wide open and desperately giving of themselves, and while I do that on a movie set as much as I can, it’s so unnatural for me to do it on television, in interviews, in anything like that. I also don’t find that my process as an actor is really anyone else’s business. A lot of actors have felt like that. I mean, there’s that awesome quote where Joanne Woodward said, ‘Acting is like sex: you should do it, not talk about it.’”
The bloke behind the camera is fucking loving this.
